It's hard to
believe the holiday season is here and 2009 is drawing to a close. Where did
the year go?
As we look back on
2009, the business community would pretty much agree that it has been a rough
go this year. It seems like we went through a cycle that started with a sense
of unease, a period of unrest, a time of reflection and a determination to find
the best way to weather the storm. Many Yuba-Sutter business people came to the
opinion that they would continue to do the best that they could and make the
necessary changes to forge ahead. It hasn't been easy and some businesses have
struggled more than others. Sadly, some have closed their doors. Yet, there are
also others that have been increasingly creative and done well. As we head into
the last month of the year we do so hoping the business community thrives this
holiday season.
Here at the
Chamber we feel confident that the "Shop Local" message has been
heard in the community and we know many people are already planning holiday
shopping purchases here in the Yuba-Sutter area. That is a key goal of the
"Think Yuba Sutter First" campaign that was initiated by the City of Yuba City and local car
dealers and businesses. We understand that not every dollar will be spent here
but if, as Yuba City Mayor Kash Gill recently said, you will "Think Yuba
Sutter First" it will help maintain our quality of life through sales tax
dollars that go back into our community. The Chamber of Commerce will continue
to partner with the "Think Yuba Sutter First" campaign in the year to
come.
It is also
important for business owners to remember that the most important part of their
business is the customer who walks through the door. How we treat our customers
is a first and foremost issue not just during the holiday season but every day.
Many businesses that are doing well
point to customer loyalty as a reason for their success. They note that a
relationship with a customer makes the customer feel appreciated and valued for
patronizing the business. And, that translates into business success.
Most of all, here
at the Chamber we would like to wish you all a very special holiday season of
family and friendship that, no matter how you celebrate it, you find the
reasons to be thankful and to celebrate what counts in your life.
