My Home Town, Mandy Jones, Jul 09 | Print |

Mandy Jones, Membership Director

Photo of Mandy Jones While driving home the other day I was listening to KKCY 103.1 on the radio when I heard a country song that really struck a chord with me. The singer was praising the really neat things that make his home town so great. None of the things he mentioned were things you would find in the "Big City", they were the little ordinary things that you find in towns like Marysville, Wheatland, Yuba City, Sutter, Live Oak, Browns Valley, Loma Rica... you get the idea.

Since cash is limited this year I would have to say that most of us are going to be sticking close to home this summer so I thought I would put together a list of the "Top Ten" things I plan to do this summer in our Home Town.

Make some home-made peach ice cream after going to the Marysville Peach Festival.

Take a drive up to the foothills. Taste some olive oil at Sylverleaf, taste some wine at Lucero's and get an ice cream cone at Collins Lake.

Pack up a picnic and go to one of the 100 Songs of Summer concerts at the GAP.

Take my overweight dog to the "Off the Leash" dog park.

Use my Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce Farm Stands brochure and buy some local produce. Make some jelly to give as Christmas gifts.

Go watch the Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox play and try to go on the Fireworks Night!

Pretend I'm in Hawaii and go the Summer Stroll Luau.

Eat a frozen chocolate covered banana and look at the pigs at the Yuba-Sutter Fair.

Invite my neighbors over for a barbeque.

Play golf with the "Ladies on the Links" on Wednesday nights at Peach Tree Golf & Country Club. Only $20 for a lesson, 3-hole scramble and a wine & cheese social hour.

Now I'm already excited for my favorite Fall activities like the Home and Garden Show, Blues, Brews & Barbeque and then Bishop's Pumpkin Farm! What's not to like about staying close to home?

For a complete guide to things to do in Yuba-Sutter visit the Chamber and pick up a copy of Explore 99 Things 2009 Edition. You can also visit the Chamber's visitors website dedicated to our "Home Town" www.visityubasutter.com.  If you need a map to find your way, we have that too! The Chamber produced a brand new color map this year of the Yuba-Sutter area. They can be purchased for $3 at the Chamber of Commerce office located at 429 10th Street in Marysville. Don't forget to ask for your FREE Shop Local Discount card to be used at participating local businesses!

I would love to hear what your summer plans are this year. Drop me a line .
