Feather Falls Casino: Yuba-Sutter's Best Bet

History shows that through hard work and dedication, amazing accomplishments can be realized. Such is the case for Mooretown Rancheria which has transformed from its original roots only 25 miles away at Feather Falls into a thriving tribal government with several economic enterprises, helping support its 1100+ members. In the late 1950s, the U.S. government terminated California rancherias, taking the land also, and it was not until 1983 that this act was reversed by the Supreme Court. Mooretown Rancheria was re-instated and returned to Federal status, and the tribe quickly re-organized, drew up a Constitution and with the help of grants opened the first tribal office in 1988. The original land was not given back to the tribe, but they were able to find suitable land in south Oroville, staying within their aboriginal territory and satisfying the government's stipulation of remaining within 25 miles of the original land.

Immediately, housing was set up for tribal members and plans for a gaming facility were made to help further the advancement of the tribe. In 1996, a small casino comprised of modular units opened its doors to the Oroville public and in 1998 the operation moved into a permanent 2-story building. Just four years later, the casino doubled in size to the current gaming facility we have today.
