Sutter County

Click here to view the 2006 Sutter County Crop Report. A report for the year 2006 is the most recent available. The Agricultural Commissioner stated in his summary:

"For a third year in a row, natural disasters were not conducive to agricultural crop production. Freezing temperatures in late February affected almond and walnut production. Unprecedented rainfall throughout late winter and early spring affected cultivation. Then record heat from July 8 to 28 resulted in devastating effocts on almost every crop, including livestock, milk and apiary production. During this heat event temperatures soared over 100 degrees for thirteen consecutive days."

Despite the challenges ever facing farmers the world over, agriculture remains the area's most valuable asset, returning over $1.26 billion to our local economy in 2006, including related industries and services.

The top five leading crops in Sutter County were rice, dried plums (prunes), walnuts, peaches, and nursery products, in that order.
