This is an overview of some
of the key items we have worked on since the last issue of Business Today. It
is an overview and may not include everything we are doing to meet our mission,
"To create and promote a community climate where businesses are productive and
profitable."
The Government Affairs Committee
The Government Affairs
Committee continued discussions regarding flood control and impact fees. It
also endorsed an effort to bring a cyber command to Beale Air Force Base.
Tourism
The Chamber's latest tourism
brochure on Farm Stands was very well received and more than 5,000 copies were
distributed throughout the region. The tourism materials, an area tourist map,
historical sites and landmarks, a walking tour of Marysville and the Farm
Stands brochure, were also given for distribution at both the Yuba and Sutter
county booths at the California State Fair.
The brochures are available
at the Chamber offices at 429 10th
St. in Marysville and on the Chamber's tourism web
site at www.visityubasutter.com.
The new Chamber tourism web
site hit 1,800 visits in July.
Visitor's Guides were mailed
to Indiana, New Mexico
and Southhampton, Hampshire,
United Kingdom.
Lead Yuba^Sutter
Lead Yuba^Sutter, the
Chamber's professional development group, began interviewing candidates for the
2007-2008 LEAD Yuba^Sutter class. The 10-month leadership program introduces
participants to the Yuba-Sutter area in monthly topic days focused on various
areas of interest in the community.
Promote a Strong Local Economy
The Chamber is accepting
vendor applications for the Shop Local Festival on Saturday, October 13, at Rio
del Oro Elementary School in Plumas
Lake. This is the second year
the festival has been held at the school. It is a festive, fun way to introduce
Chamber members to new residents of the area and for residents to have a
one-stop way to learn about our business community.
A booth costs $50 and
participants are asked to bring a Pop-Up and raffle prizes. Food vendors pay
$75. Vendors must provide one-day insurance. Sponsorship opportunities are also
available.
Support the Community
Our calls for information
including the ever-popular farmers market, directions to Collins Lake,
Sycamore Ranch, Lake Francis Resort and other lakes and recreational areas in
the foothills and RV parks.
Networking Opportunities
Our ribbon cuttings, a
Business After Hours, and the Business Connection Breakfast represented about
250 networking contacts for our members.
