Growth has proceeded rapidly over the past few years in and towards both Yuba and Sutter Counties as more and more road between the area and Sacramento becomes four-lane, thus shortening commute times. As the cost of living remains significantly lower in Yuba-Sutter than in Sacramento and we enjoy a rural location, many people find it more desirable to live in Yuba-Sutter and commute to jobs in Sacramento, Roseville and Rocklin.

Apartment Survey, 2005, conducted by the City of Yuba City
The majority of apartments in the area are 2-bedroom. Monthly rental costs vary widely for each type of unit. Studio apartments started as low as $350 and reached $515 a month: one-bedroom units varied from $300 to $825 a month; two-bedroom units ranged from $375 to $1250 a month; and three-bedroom units differed from $530 to $1450 a month. All of the four-bedroom units were located at the same complex and were renting at a subsidized rent for low-income households at the rate of $776 per month. The apartment survey is not regularly conducted, and this may be the only available. A good source for apartment availability and costs is the Appeal-Democrat classified ads .

Sutter County
Click here to view the 2007 Sutter County Crop Report. A report for the year 2007 is the most recent available. The Agricultural Commissioner stated in his summary:
"Strong demand helped increase market prices, especiallly for walnuts, field corn, hay, safllower, wheat, processing tomatoes, and seed crops. In contrast, record freezing temperatures in January affected several frost-sensitive crops throughout California, but it was the reoccurring high temperatures during the dried-plum crop bloom in March that once again drastically affected yeileds. Honey production continues to be plagued by a malady of honeybee disorders, including the newfound Colony Collapse Disorder.
As summarized in this report, agriculture continues to be an integral part of Sutter County's economic base. Industries such as banking, labor, marketing, transportation, and other services directly or indirectly tied to agriculture benefited appreciably as the agricultural industry returned over $1.32 billion to our economy in 2007."
The top five leading crops in Sutter County were rice, walnuts, peaches, (processing) tomatoes, dried plums (prunes), and almonds in that order.
Yuba County
Click here to view the 2007 Yuba County Crop Report. Similar adverse weather conditions affected Yuba County as Sutter County, as only a river divides the counties.
According to this report, the leading agribultural commodities in 2007 were rice, walnuts, cling peaches, milk, and cattle and calves, in that order.
The Agricultural Commission stated in his summary:
"The gross value of Yuba County's agricultural production for 2007 was $153,364,000, which is a decrease of...6% from last year's estimate."
