DID YOU KNOW......... The Chamber offers free enhanced directory listings with a description of your business to renewing members. This is another benefit of Chamber membership. An enhanced directory listing worksheet is on the chamber web site at www.yubasutterchamber.com, or call the office at 743-6501.
SAVE THE DATE: The Chamber is working with the California Public Utilities Commission and Comcast to host the first-ever Small Business ExPO & Matchmaking Fair on Thursday, November 13, 2008, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bonanza Inn in Yuba City. The goal is to help small businesses understand the opportunities they have to do business with government agencies and utilities and to help them with the paperwork process. To date, 28 vendors representing a variety of agencies will be on hand. Eighteen will be part of the matchmaking segment, which allows business owners to make individual appointments with the agencies. To register for a matchmaking session e-mail smallbiz@cpuc.ca.gov. The Small Business Development Center, Caltrans and the Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corporation are assisting with planning locally.
CHAMBER CHALLENGE AIRS: Watch the "Chamber Challenge, Encore Edition," this week on Comcast Channel 19. GBOF: The business community has really stepped up this year for the Chamber's annual "Great Balls of Fire" event. Fifty businesses so far have donated prizes, which makes your odds of winning better than ever. Thanks to the Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds, host of this regular Business After Hours event at 5:30 p.m., September 11, at the Main Exhibit Hall. There is no cost to attend the event but you can enter the drawing by purchasing a $100 ticket from a Chamber board member or Ambassador. Thursday, September 4, 5:30 p.m., Ribbon Cutting: Community Memorial Museum, 1333 Butte House Rd, Yuba City. Join the Museum for the Kickoff Event announcing the new book "Yuba City, Our Home Town." The coffee table quality, hardbound book weaves the stories of Yuba City from a Native American village on the banks of the Feather River, through its settlement in July 1849, its incorporation as a city in 1908, and up to the present. Historic photographs, vintage newspaper articles, and memories of its first citizens bring the stories alive. Festivities include an ice cream social and a book signing by the authors.

Thursday, August 28, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Sizzlin' Summer Salad Luncheon. Sponsored by the Yuba Sutter Legal Center for Seniors, this luncheon supports free legal services for our community's seniors. There will be a $50 door prize and more, with dozens of salads and desserts to eat there or take out. $5 donation. Tickets available at the door. For more information call 742-8289. Saturday, August 30, 11:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., "A Labor Day Lakeside Picnic and Wine Tasting." Presented by Renaissance Vineyard & Winery, this Open House will also feature an exciting winery tour during harvest. The picnic will be accompanied by a sampling of Renaissance's Bordeaux-inspired White and Terroir-driven Red blends, along with the fabulous releases from Apollo Olive Oil. Tuesday, September 9, 6:00 - 10:00 p.m., Introduction to Quick Books. In four hours you'll learn how to set-up your business books. Use of Easy Interview, Chart of Accounts, Accounts payable and receivable and bank reconciliations. Workshop material is designed to be used as an easy reference for your continued use. Pre-registration is required, only $30 per person. Register with the Yuba Community College Small Business Development Corporation at 822-0140. The workshop will be held at the Colusa County Chamber of Commerce, 2963 Davison Court in Colusa.
Friday, September 12, Noon, Encouragement Luncheon. On National Day of Encouragement, we want to say "Thank You!" for supporting The Salvation Army and for taking an interest in our programs. Learn more about The Salvation Army in Yuba and Sutter Counties, meet the new Corps Officers and some of the program graduates. Thursday, October 2, 1:00 p.m., Save the Date! The 2nd Annual Mayor's Cup Golf Tournament is hosted by the League of California Cities; Sacramento Valley Division at the Lincoln Hills Golf Club, 1005 Sun City Lane, Lincoln CA. The event, which includes mayors and council members from cities across the Sacramento Valley and Sierra Nevada also draws some of the best amateur golfers in Northern California who compete for the right to hold the Mayor's Cup. The tournament, a fundraiser for CitiPAC, is part of the League's ongoing effort to protect local revenue, some of which funds programs for economic development, affordable housing, road improvements and public transportation. Individual participation is $250 and includes 18 holes of golf, participation in the $25,000 cash prize "hole in one" competition, box lunch, a ticket to the reception and BBQ dinner and chance at winning the Mayor's Cup.
