GBOF: The 2008 Great Balls of Fire event is shaping up to be the best ever. The event is our traditional Business After Hours with the twist of having 8 caterers and an opportunity drawing that can't be beat. This is a free event on Thursday, September 11, 2008 - tickets for the drawing are $100. Please let the Chamber know if you would like to support the event with a ticket purchase, basket donation or sponsorship. New Yuba City Web Site: Yuba City has launched a new web site at www.thinkyubacity.com to serve as an information resource for economic development in the city. The site includes a community profile, properties database and news features in a clean, professional presentation. The City of Yuba City staff is able to update the site, which was facilitated through the city's Economic Development Strategic Plan. Thursday, August 14, 9 a.m.- 1p.m., 2nd Annual Non-traditional Career Awareness Day for Women. Sponsored by the Yuba County One Stop Center, women only are invited to meet with Program Representatives for the latest information on Apprenticeship Programs and High Wage Career Opportunities. The event is free, but space is limited. Free continental breakfast included. Call 749-4850 for reservations. Held at the Elks Lodge, 920 D St in Marysville. Monday, August 18-Thursday, August 21, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Yuba College Fall Semester and Welcome Back Activities. Local community vendors are invited to participate. Market, promote and demonstrate your product or service to approximately 3,000 to 5,000 students on campus. No charge to participate. To apply, call Yuba College Campus Life at 741-6992 or download it from the website. Tuesday, August 19, 5:30 - 7 p.m., Don't Be A Victim....How to Identify and Avoid Senior Scams seminar. Sponsored and presented by Congressman Wally Herger of the Second Congressional District, this forum will educate, raise awareness, and protect our elderly population from scams targeting seniors. Invited guests include FBI Special Agent Jos Van Hout. The seminar will be held at Sutter Estates Retirement Community, 1230 Plumas St, Yuba City.
