THE CHAMBER CHALLENGE: The Chamber kicks off the year with its latest, innovative and fun program to inform people about the Yuba-Sutter business community. It's called "The Chamber Challenge," an engaging game-show style program featuring host Rich Gabel, the Chairman of the Board, and featuring three local contestants playing for $500 for the charity of their choice. The first show airs on Wednesday, January 30, at 7:30 p.m. and is repeated on Friday at 8 p.m. on Comcast Channel 19, the Chamber's partner in this effort.

ECONOMIC CENSUS, U.S. BUREAU OF THE CENSUS: More than 4 million American businesses, including throughout Yuba and Sutter counties, have received the 2007 Economic Census forms. They are due back by February 12, 2008. While many very small businesses were not sent a form, those businesses that did get a form are required by law (Title 13, U.S. Code) to complete and return it. Many businesses may not realize how important this census is -- how the data, though collected only once every five years, support both public policy and business decisions, both national and local. If you need more information about the 2007 Economic Census, please contact Robert Marske, Laurie Torene, or Paul Zeisset at 1-877-790-1876, or e-mail econ2007@census.gov.

FAMILY FRIENDLY WORKPLACE AWARDS: The Appeal-Democrat, Child care Planning Council of Yuba and Sutter Counties and the Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce, have teamed up to offer the 1st Family Friendly Workplace Awards. The award recognizes employers that offer family friendly programs and benefits in their workplace. Any business is eligible. Nomination forms are due by February 15. They can be downloaded at the Childcare Planning Council and Appeal-Democrat websites. Submit nominations to the council at 1010 I Street in Marysville. Call 749-3726, ext 106, for more information.
